For 13-year-old, 6’2 basketball and football player, Zach Keith of Douglasville, Georgia, finding a shoe that fits his massive, size 18 feet is a challenge ““ both physically and financially. Like most teens, he wants to make sure that his shoe game is on point, but his mom is struggling to make ends meet and can’t afford them.
Zach’s mom, Brittany would do anything for her boy, so she came up with a plan. She posted her plea on Instagram in the hopes that someone would help buy her son a pair of shoes so he could continue to pursue his passion for sports at Stewart Middle School.
“It’s hard finding shoes and cleats in his size let alone being able to afford them at times,” she wrote. “He’s almost in a size 19 and I need help. If you can do anything to help I will be so appreciative.” She also tagged Atlanta’s CBS 46 News in the post and in turn, the station contacted NBA icon, Shaquille O’Neal!
Shaq could relate as has had trouble finding shoes for his own size 23 feet! So he arranged to have Brittany and Zach visit Friedman’s Shoes, his favorite big-and-tall shoe store in Atlanta where he’s shopped at for 30 years. Owner “Bruce (Friedman) gave me a pair of shoes when I was 18-years-old for free, so I’ma take care of the kid today because somebody did it for me. I’m doing it for the kid,” Shaq said.
Shaq not only bought young Zach ten pairs of shoes but also gave the teen some spending money and his personal cell phone number to call if he ever needed help. What a legend!
