About us

A magazine built on the belief that good news is serious news.

Uplift Post began in 2019 as a two-person newsletter written after hours, in a small apartment with a very loud radiator and a very slow internet connection. The premise was simple: the world is full of people quietly doing remarkable things, and almost nobody is reporting on them. Five years later that newsletter has grown into a full editorial publication with correspondents on four continents, but the premise has not moved an inch.

We are not a "positive news" filter that skips the difficult parts. We are a newsroom that believes context is more useful than outrage, that nuance travels further than a hot take, and that a reader who finishes an article should feel better equipped, not merely better entertained. That means we spend weeks on a single story. It means we knock on doors, we read the studies, we call back the people who were hard to reach. It means we sometimes publish nothing at all.

Every piece we run passes through the same three questions. Who is this for? What does it change? Would we still stand behind it in five years? If a story fails any of them, it doesn't go out. We would rather publish twelve excellent stories a year than twelve hundred forgettable ones.

Uplift Post is reader funded and advertising free. We have no paywall, no sponsored content, no hidden partners. If you find value here, the newsletter is the best way to support what we do — and the best way to make sure you never miss the story that matters most to you.

01 Reported, not recycled

Every story starts with original reporting and primary sources — never with someone else's headline.

02 Hopeful, not naive

We cover what is difficult honestly, and we cover what is working with equal seriousness.

03 Built for humans

No infinite feeds, no autoplay, no tracking walls. Long reads designed to be finished.

04 Reader funded

Independent since day one. Our only obligation is to the people who read us.

What we cover

Six beats, one idea: progress is made by people.

Our coverage is deliberately narrow and deliberately deep. We follow six threads across the year, returning to the same people and places until the picture is complete.

🌱

Quiet Revolutions

Communities that changed their streets, schools and rivers without waiting for permission from anyone.

🧑‍🔬

People & Profiles

Long conversations with the scientists, builders, nurses, teachers and stubborn optimists doing the work.

🛰️

Science & Progress

Research that actually reached the world — medicine, materials, energy, and the slow grind of peer review.

🎨

Culture & Craft

Makers, restorers, archivists and musicians keeping skills alive that the market had already written off.

🌤️

Wellbeing

Evidence-based writing on attention, sleep, friendship and stamina — without a single miracle cure.

🌍

Planet

Restoration projects, honest numbers, and the unglamorous logistics of putting things back the way they were.

Uplift Post is written by a small team of staff writers and a wide circle of freelance contributors. If you have a story that fits our beats, send us a short pitch — two hundred words, why it matters now, and what you already know that nobody else has reported. Attachments are welcome but not required.

We are also open to partnerships with schools, libraries and non-profit newsrooms who want to republish our work. Our archive is free for non-commercial use with attribution, and we are happy to share source materials with other journalists.

We do not accept sponsored posts, paid links or advertorials of any kind. If you receive a request that looks like it came from us and asks for money, it did not come from us.
